According to the Financial times reports based on anonymous sources, the biggest mobile operators in Europe are considering the possibility of launching cross-European mobile telephony network.
The discussion, which is currently in its initial phase, is supported by European Commission, which endeavors to unify the European Union markets.

The Financial Times reports that the idea of establish such a network appeared during the meeting between Joaquín Almunia, European Commissioner for Competition and the top management of the biggest telecommunication groups which were represented by Deutsche Telekom, France Telecom, Telecom Italia and Telefonica.
The newspaper states that European Union propositions were kindly accepted by the operators. It is also added that this kind of propositions can meet some resistance from individual telephony markets.
The common infrastructure could be brought into a separate entity along with its assigned debt. This company would share wholesale based capacities with all the operators. Such an entity would have bigger possibilities for seeking of public and private funds for the building of a new-generation network.
Magdalena Gaj, the chairperson of Office of Electronic Communication, shared her thoughts about the idea of establishing a new wholesale based operator in Poland during her interview for Puls Biznesu.
Polish operators: Orange and T-Mobile founded a joint-stock company to maintain their networks and to build a common infrastructure. However, the entities brought into the company neither telecommunication mast nor frequencies.
